Adjuvant science: providers and consumers

Over the recent decades the production, marketing and application of adjuvants for agriculture are grown up and entered a more mature stage. Nevertheless, people find it difficult to make the right choices for adjuvant application. In that situation, there is a continuous interest in science-based and understandable information. Adjuvants & Formulations describes the providers and consumers of adjuvant science and how they interact.

Spray hoods reduce spray drift

Spray hoods combined with proper nozzle selection and the use of a drift control agents can substantially reduce spray drift potential during pesticide applications. Adjuvants & Formulations presents findings of a study into the effectiveness of spray hoods in reducing pesticide drift of spray solutions from nozzles typically used for herbicide applications in row crops with tolerance to dicamba or 2,4-D.

Patents in brief

Dispersible concentrate (DC) formulations have a water-insoluble or partially water-soluble active ingredient in the form of small crystals in a water-soluble solvent. The active ingredient is intended to crystallise upon dilution in the spray solution. The crystals must remain small, otherwise the spray solution is not stable. Addition of crystallisation inhibitors helps the formation of small crystals, while reducing the risk of significant crystal growth over time. Several companies have recently introduced pesticides formulated as dispersible concentrate.

Adjuvants & Formulations also reports about activities of other companies as well as universities, such as:

  • Alkyl polyglycerylamine surfactants
  • Weak acids plus their salts reduce isomeric transformation of lambda-cyhalothrin
  • Stable clethodim compositions
  • Pyrethroid ZC formulations
  • Overview of recent patent publications with brief summary
