Shifts in formulation types for biopesticides and biostimulants
Biopesticide
and biostimulant formulations become more user-friendly and advanced.
Dusts and wettable powders are exchanged for water dispersible granules,
oily carriers are coming more into the picture and the release profile
is also receiving more attention. University labs are working on
sophisticated delivery systems and specialty chemicals companies are
adding biopesticide-compatible inerts to their product portfolio. Shelf
life is an all-time concern. Adjuvants & Formulations presents a rough outline of the latest trends in biopesticide and biostimulant formulation.

Co-formulants affect skin and glove barrier protection
People
handling concentrated pesticides should be aware that the formulation
type has an effect on the glove permeation. Gloves recommended in SDS
documents or catalogues are not always appropriate, according to
researchers from the University of Adelaide (Australia). Adjuvants & Formulations presents findings of their study into the modifying effect of co-formulants on skin and glove barrier protection.
More news in this issue:
- Adjuvants recommended to overcome glyphosate supply chain issues
- Cuticular transpiration of leaf and fruit cuticles not affected by alcohol ethoxylates
- A simple method for predicting alkane-water partition coefficients of surfactants
- Nonylcyclohexanol ethoxylates, a green alternative of nonylphenol ethoxylate
- Mineral oil added to fungicide tank mixture for the control of citrus black spot
- Rosmarinus officinalis L. essential oil encapsulated in new microemulsion formulations

Patents in brief
Agrochemical companies are developing herbicidal compositions based on the L-enantiomer
of glufosinate. Several parties are actively developing chemical or
enzymatic processes to obtain as pure as possible L-glufosinate
and its salts, or have already such processes patented. In their wake,
companies are working on formulations and herbicide combinations based
on this glufosinate isomer.
Adjuvants & Formulations also reports about activities of other companies as well as universities, such as:
- Solvent-surfactant mixture inhibits 2,4-D crystallization
- Overview of recent patent publications with brief summary
