High drift risk in very calm weather

An early morning without wind is ideal for spraying herbicides, is the feeling of many farmers. But experts take a different view. If the air at boom-height is colder than a few meters above ground level, the risk of spray drift is even higher. All current pesticide formulations are at risk of drift during such temperature inversions. Volatilisation from leaf and soil surfaces makes low-volatile dicamba formulations risky from some days prior to an inversion. Adjuvants & Formulations highlights drift risk at temperature inversions in the just published September-October issue.

Patents in brief

Formulators explore the possibilities of three dimensional (3D) extrusion printing to prepare carriers with sophisticated release profiles. Adjuvants & Formulations also reports about new surfactant systems. In this section also news about improved urease and nitrification inhibitor formulations, new formulations for pethoxamid and for a mixture of afidopyropen plus cypermethrin. Companies have also filed patent applications on a stable emamectin plus cartap composition, concentrated mixtures of glyphosate potassium and isopropylamine, and a concentrated liquid 2,4-D formulation that is crystallisation-tolerant at low temperatures.

And further

  • Glucosyl esters as biosurfactants.
  • NIR-responsive herbicide formulation.
  • Nanosuspension improves abamectin bioavailability.
  • Hat and hanger.
  • Hard water-resistant polycarboxylate dispersant for water dispersible granules.
