Adjuvants & Formulations

Bimonthly newsletter for agchem specialists (former Adjuvant Newsletter)

September / October 2015

Molecular imaging reveals field performance of agrochemicals
What about the spatial distribution of agrochemicals on plant surfaces and their mobility in plants? Researchers increasingly study these questions with imaging techniques that are originally developed for biomedical applications. Adjuvants & Formulations reports about these imaging techniques.

Patents in brief
Two inventors have applied for a patent covering a novel approach to formulate biopesticides by using the growth substrate as carrier. In this issue also news about water-dispersible granule formulations, about high-load pyrethroid encapsulated seed treatment formulations, about a novel copper algicide, about odour control for organothiophosphate formulations and about patent pending adjuvants.

Symposium: The Future of Adjuvants
The Future of Adjuvants, that is the inspiring theme for the one-day symposium on adjuvant innovations in agrochemistry, organised by SURfaPLUS. This symposium will be held in conference centre De Balie, Amsterdam, The Netherlands on November 20, 2015.

Apps about active ingredient modes of action
An adjuvant selector or an application tool – app stores have dozens of useful and interesting applications for mobile devices. In this issue the Ag PhD Modes of Action app and the IRAC Mode of Action Classification app.

And further in this issue
Oil-based pesticides most effective at killing contents of brown widow spider egg sacs. Picture by Rick Vetter, University of California, Riverside.
Uptake pathways for root-aplied hydrophilic and hydrophobic compounds.
Photoprotection with starch/montmorillonite composites.
Alginate microspheres for oral delivery of proteinaceous bioinsecticides.

Book reviews and announcements
In this issue focus on a handbook about interfacial phenomena and colloid stability, a textbook about nanodispersions, a book with papers about retention, uptake, and translocation of agrochemicals and a book with papers about biopesticides. Adjuvants & Formulations also presents an overview of recent published works that can serve as eye-opener or that can broaden and deepen one's know-how.
