Seed coatings with adjusted release profile
A
controlled-release formulation protects germinating seeds from a too
high pesticide dose. Controlled release of active ingredients may also
substantially elongate the period of good performance of the pesticide.
Seed scientists are also interested in a delay of the activity of
seed-provided pesticides till the plant has the desired growth stage.

Seedcoats differ in permeability to systemic seed treatments
Seedcoat
permeability of active ingredients differs per plant species. American
seed scientists have developed a method to categorize plants in
permeability classes. Understanding of seed treatment uptake during
germination is a crucial step towards developing or improving seed
treatment formulations, the researchers say.

Patents in brief
Formulators
have managed to combine polyacrylamide and an EO/PO block copolymer in a
W/O emulsion. In this way the inventors combine the wetting properties
of an EO/PO block copolymer and the water retention properties of
polyacrylamide. In this issue of Adjuvants & Formulations also patent pending fluid termite bait formulation that flows into and adhere onto the inner surface of voids in structures created by termite tunneling or chewing, new OD formulations, an apparatus to formulate entomopathogenic fungi in biodegradable oil and granular, water surface-floating pesticide formulations for use on paddy fields.

An
