Adjuvant Newsletter

July / August 2014

Is there an app for that?
App stores have countless applications for mobile devices. The number of crop protection-related applications increases rapidly. Farmers can download dozens of apps that help calibrate sprayers and calculate tank mixes. However, specific apps for formulators can be counted on one hand, according to a quick scan by SURfaPLUS. Adjuvant Newsletter presents a state-of-the-art.

The stimulating effects of a low pesticide dose
Low doses of herbicides can stimulate plant growth. Recently researchers have related this so-called hormetic effect to the fast growth of weeds that have become resistant or tolerant to herbicides. Researchers therefore plead for a more complete understanding of herbicide hormesis, to exploit its potential benefits and to minimize its potential harmful effects (picture by Wikipedia).

Patents in brief
NBPT is a widely used urease inhibitor in urea fertilisers. Inventors have recently applied for patents covering novel solvents for NBPT and similar urease inhibitors. In this issue of the Adjuvant Newsletter also patent pending solvent-free formulations of this class of urease inhibitors.
Other patent applications in this issue cover low-volatile auxin mixtures, a nano-suspension of isoproturon, solvents for stable EC's of metolachlor and mesotrione, a solvent blend for organophosphates, a new sticker, a novel penetrant and a coating for urea fertilisers.
