Soil surfactants improve rewettability of
water-repellent soils and growing media

Surfactants can prevent or reduce dry zones in potato hills. In this way these surface active agents can improve water and nutrient uptake. In a dry year Dutch researchers found a reduction of the incidence of scab in plots treated with a soil surfactant. Adjuvant Newsletter presents a state-of-the-art of rewetting water-repellent soils and potting media by surfactants. Picture by researchers.

Patents in brief
Specific thickeners can maintain a suspension or dispersion of solid particles in an oil medium. With this effect, these patent pending thickeners enable a significant higher weight ratio of solid particles in such suspension compositions as compared to previously known compositions.
Other patent applications in this issue of the Adjuvant Newsletter cover granular formulations of low-melting agrochemicals, novel nano-sized herbicide formulations, a controlled-release formulation to improve the retention of 1-MCP in a spray solution and sulphur and mineral oil in one synergistic insecticidal composition.

And further in this issue
Delivery by pollen grains and plant spores.
Systematic search for crystal polymorphs.
Highly water dilutable green microemulsions.
Surfactant-rich biocompatible microemulsions as effective carriers.
Epoxidized soybean oil based IL microemulsions.
